First, you can enjoy a peaceful walk along the lakeside promenade, lined with elegant Belle Époque hotels, flowerbeds, and shaded benches, offering beautiful views over the Borromean Islands and the surrounding hills. It is especially pleasant in the early morning or at sunset, when the lake reflects the changing colors of the sky.
Just a short walk from the promenade, you can visit the beautiful Villa Pallavicino, a historic lakeside park combining botanical gardens with a small animal park (€16.5). The villa features centuries-old trees, colorful flower gardens, and scenic viewpoints over the lake, making it ideal for a relaxing stroll, especially for families and nature lovers.
Just a short walk from the promenade, the pedestrian streets of Stresa’s town center invite you to explore charming lanes lined with small shops, cafés, and gelaterias. The area is perfect for a leisurely stroll, and along the way you will find several elegant Belle Époque hotels, such as the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées and the Regina Palace, ideal for stopping for a drink or an aperitif while enjoying the historic and refined atmosphere.
For panoramic views, head up to Mottarone, accessible by car, e-bike, or on foot, as the funicular is currently not in operation. From the summit, you can enjoy stunning 360° views of Lake Maggiore and the surrounding Alps, take short scenic walks, or stop for a drink or meal at a mountain restaurant. Please note that Stresa is not directly connected to the main railway line running along Lake Maggiore. For travelers planning to arrive by train, Laveno is the most convenient railway hub.
